St. John’s City Council has approved in principle a new 78-unit apartment building at 5–7 Little Street, developed by Nevida Properties Inc. The five-storey building will feature a mix of 40 one-bedroom units, 8 two-bedroom units, and 30 micro-units, along with 54 parking spaces.
Council’s housing lead Ron Ellsworth highlighted the need to address the city’s housing crisis through increased density, especially near services and post-secondary institutions. The development is a revision of a previously rejected 96-unit proposal and reflects the city’s growing shift toward compact, affordable housing.
Ellsworth acknowledged potential concerns from residents but emphasized council’s effort to balance neighbourhood impact with the urgent need for more housing.
