St. John’s, NL — The St. John’s Farmers’ Market Cooperative has been awarded $371,715 by the provincial government to bolster its sustainability and diversify revenue streams. This investment underscores the market’s pivotal role as a hub for small businesses and community events.

Operating year-round every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 245 Freshwater Road, the market hosts approximately 300 commercial entities weekly and attracts over 200,000 visitors annually. It offers rental spaces for various events and houses a commercial kitchen, providing essential infrastructure for local entrepreneurs.

Minister of Immigration, Population Growth, and Skills, Sarah Stoodley, emphasized the market’s significance in promoting local commerce and community engagement. She highlighted that the funding aligns with the “Buy Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada” campaign, ensuring the availability of market and event spaces for local producers.

Pamela Anstey, Executive Director of the St. John’s Farmers’ Market Cooperative, expressed gratitude for the government’s support, noting that the investment will enhance the market’s capacity to serve vendors and the community.
