Newfoundland’s west coast is in for a prolonged period of freezing rain tonight and into Tuesday. Areas from Corner Brook to Hawke’s Bay can expect 6 to 10 hours of freezing rain, while Deer Lake – Humber Valley, Green Bay – White Bay, and Buchans and the interior will see between 8 and 12 hours of icy conditions lasting overnight into early Tuesday afternoon.
Northeastern Newfoundland is also set to experience freezing rain overnight and into Tuesday morning, with accumulations lasting 4 to 8 hours. Before the freezing rain begins, these areas will see 2 to 5 cm of snow and ice pellets. As temperatures rise, the precipitation will transition to rain by Tuesday morning.
Further south, Channel-Port aux Basques and Burgeo-Ramea are bracing for significant rainfall, with 25 to 40 mm expected from tonight through Tuesday evening. This rain will be preceded by 2 to 5 cm of snow, followed by a period of ice pellets and freezing rain.
Travelers and residents should prepare for hazardous road conditions and potential power outages due to ice accumulation.
