Weapons Incident on Watson Street Marks Fourth in Newfoundland in a Week

St. John’s police responded to a weapons-related call Tuesday night in the city’s east end — the fourth such incident reported in Newfoundland and Labrador over the past week.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) said officers were called to Watson Street around 9:30 p.m., where they found one person injured. The individual was transported to hospital by emergency responders. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

Police taped off the driveway of a residence in the area and conducted a search with officers in tactical gear. A person described as a “person of interest” was taken into custody. The type of weapon involved has not been disclosed.

This latest response follows a string of violent events in recent days.

On Friday night, RCMP in Grand Falls-Windsor issued a public alert about an active shooter after multiple shots were fired at a home on Suvla Road. The following night in St. John’s, the RNC responded to two more reports of gunfire — one at a home on Virginia Place and another in the Druken Crescent area of Shea Heights.

Despite the recent series of incidents, the RNC said they do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public related to Tuesday’s event.

UPDATE:

The individual who was taken to hospital following the incident has succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
