Town of Harbour Grace Seeks Public’s Help After Theft of Amelia Earhart Statue

Harbour Grace, NL – The Town of Harbour Grace is appealing to the public for assistance following the theft of a significant piece of local heritage from the Spirit of Harbour Grace Municipal Park.

In the early hours of April 24, 2025—around midnight—at least two individuals were involved in the theft of the town’s cherished Amelia Earhart statue. Donated by Mr. Roger Pike, the statue was unveiled to mark the 75th anniversary of Earhart’s historic transatlantic flight, a journey that began in Harbour Grace in 1932.

The Town emphasizes that this is not just a theft of public property but a theft of history. The statue represents Harbour Grace’s proud connection to one of the most iconic moments in aviation history.

In response to the incident, the Town is offering a reward for information that leads to the safe return of the statue.

Residents and visitors are urged to check any security or doorbell camera footage they may have from the park area or surrounding streets from April 23 to 24. Anyone who noticed suspicious activity during that time is asked to come forward.
