St. John’s, NL – The federal and provincial governments have finalized a 10-year agreement under the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund (CHIF), allocating $123.1 million to enhance critical infrastructure across Newfoundland and Labrador.

This initiative aims to bolster essential services such as drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste management, thereby facilitating increased housing development and community growth. The funding is part of a broader national strategy, with CHIF investing over $5 billion across Canada to support infrastructure that enables housing expansion.

“Today’s investments are about more than just infrastructure—they’re about creating a better future for everyone in our province,” stated the Honourable Joanne Thompson, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, and Member of Parliament for St. John’s East. “Good things happen when we work together, and these projects will help communities in Newfoundland and Labrador build more homes with the right infrastructure support in place.”

The Honourable Fred Hutton, Newfoundland and Labrador’s Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing pressing infrastructure needs and supporting future housing initiatives.
