Police Seek Public’s Help in Downtown George Street Assault Investigation

St. John’s, NL  — The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is requesting the public’s assistance as they investigate a serious assault that occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 24, on George Street in downtown St. John’s.

At approximately 3:00 a.m., officers from the RNC’s Operational Patrol Services responded to a call from paramedics regarding an injured male at the west end of George Street, near the intersection with Adelaide Street. Upon arrival, police discovered a man lying on the ground with serious injuries. He was transported to hospital for emergency medical treatment.

The RNC’s Major Crime Unit is now leading the investigation and is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have cell phone video from the area around the time of the assault to come forward.

“This was a violent incident in a heavily trafficked area,” said an RNC spokesperson. “We know there were people nearby and we believe someone may have seen something that could help us piece together what happened.”
