Public Advisory: Temporary Closures of Forest Access Roads in Central Newfoundland Due to Spring Thaw

Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture

As part of ongoing efforts to protect forest infrastructure during the spring thaw, several forest access roads in the Central Newfoundland region will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic starting Wednesday, March 26, until further notice.

The affected areas include Point Leamington, Botwood, Lewisporte, Glenwood, Birchy Bay, Gander Bay, Gambo, and Glovertown, with signage posted at all gate entrances to indicate closed roads.

These closures are necessary to prevent road damage caused by thawing conditions. However, snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) will still have access to these roads during this period.

The following access roads will be temporarily closed:

Salmon Pond
Birchy Bay
Clarke’s Head
Otter Pond
Shipbuilder’s Pond
Stoneville
Osmonton Arm
Southern Lake
Burnt Bay Lake
Wings Point
Neil’s Brook
Rod and Gun Club
Island Pond
Second Pond
Chapel’s Island
Mint Brook Forest
Drover’s Ridge
Northwest Pond
Weir’s Pond
Kinden’s Ridge
