Gillams, NL — On the evening of March 21, 2025, a joint operation between the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) led to the search of a residence in Gillams, where officers seized a quantity of drugs and weapons. Two individuals, a 44-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman, were arrested without incident.
The operation, authorized under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, saw the execution of a search warrant at a home on Pioneer Avenue. JFO West, the integrated police team targeting drug trafficking and organized crime on the west coast of Newfoundland, was assisted by RCMP NL’s General Investigation Section and the RNC’s Patrol Services during the operation.
Inside the home, officers discovered approximately 1.5 ounces of cocaine, a number of prescription pills, a prohibited weapon (brass knuckles), and a handgun believed to be an airsoft pistol. Other items consistent with drug trafficking were also found during the search.
Both individuals are scheduled to appear in court at a later date, each facing charges related to the possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. The man is additionally facing a charge of possession of a prohibited weapon.
The investigation is ongoing, with further charges possible as the authorities continue to gather evidence.
