RNC Seeks Public’s Help Following St. John’s Robbery and Assault

St. John’s, NLThe Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is asking for the public’s assistance following a robbery and assault in St. John’s early Sunday morning.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on May 4, police responded to a report of a vehicle-pedestrian collision. Upon arriving at the scene, officers were met by a man who reported he had been stabbed during a robbery.

RNC officers located and arrested 27-year-old Rashid Mohamed Amin at the scene. He has been charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm.

While a suspect is in custody, investigators believe additional individuals may have been involved in the incident. Police are now seeking witnesses and any available video footage — including CCTV, dash cam, or cellphone video — from the area of Elizabeth Avenue, Whiteway Street, and Cowperthwaite Court between 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Police have indicated that the incident was targeted and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
