Severe Winter Weather Continues to Impact Labrador

Labrador continues to endure severe winter conditions as blizzard, snowfall, and freezing rain warnings remain in effect across eastern and coastal regions. A blowing snow advisory is also in place, making travel hazardous and prompting road closures.

Heavy Snowfall and Strong Winds Expected

Communities including Nain, Hopedale, and Cartwright are bracing for significant snowfall, with totals ranging between 15 to 30 cm. The heaviest accumulations are expected in areas stretching from Hopedale to Postville and Makkovik.

In addition to the heavy snowfall, powerful winds gusting between 100 to 120 km/h are forecasted to persist overnight and continue until Wednesday evening, further reducing visibility and worsening road conditions.

Additional Snowfall for Southern Labrador

Further south, areas from Norman Bay to Lodge Bay, particularly north of Port Hope Simpson and along the Trans-Labrador Highway from Crook’s Lake to Cartwright Junction, will receive another 5 cm of snow this evening.

Road Closures and Travel Disruptions

As of 4:00 p.m. today, the highway from Lodge Bay to Red Bay has been closed due to treacherous conditions. Motorists are advised to check road conditions frequently and avoid unnecessary travel.

With winter weather showing no signs of relenting, residents are urged to exercise caution and stay updated on further advisories from local authorities.
