St. John’s, NL – A shelter in place advisory has been issued for several key facilities in the city, including the Health Sciences Centre, Memorial University’s Faculty of Medicine, and the Animal Resources Centre. The advisory also applies to the new mental health facility adjacent to these buildings.
The public is being asked not to enter these facilities or move around inside them at this time. Authorities are urging anyone currently within these buildings to remain where they are until further notice.
An all-clear will be issued once it is safe and normal activities can resume.
At this time, no other areas of Memorial University’s campus are affected by the advisory.
Officials have not released further details about the nature of the incident prompting the advisory. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Update: One person is in custody after a shelter in place was issued for the Health Sciences, MUN Faculty of Medicine and Animal Resources Centre.
Police advise there is no concern for public safety.
